Who should attend:
Any person who requires foundation level training in Occupational Health and Safety and those who have such a responsibility in their place of work. The module is designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to promote and maintain safety and health in their places of work, and should, in general, serve to adequately provide the training and knowledge elements required of a competent person.
Entry Requirements:
While there are no specific entry requirements, learners should preferably have a good working knowledge of English both verbal; and written, Leaving Certificate, National Vocational Certificate Level 1 or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences. All prospective candidates must submit a completed Booking Form and pay the course fee before they can be accepted onto the course.
Assessments:
All assessment is carried out in accordance with FETAC / (NCVA) regulations.
Assessment is devised by the internal assessor, with external moderation by FETAC (NCVA).
Summary:
Assignments (2) 60%
Examination (Theory-Based) 40%
Awards:
Each participant will receive a Certificate on successful completion of the course and passing the assignment requirements. A FETAC Record of Achievement will be issued following the validation of results by FETAC and the appropriate credit under the National Framework of Qualifications will then be obtained by the candidate.
National Framework of Qualifications:
Course qualifies as 1 credit towards FETAC (level 5) Certificates and is a recognised module within the National Framework of Qualifications.
Course Content:
Section 1 Legislation
Section 2 The Health and Safety Authority.
Section 3 Hazard identification, risk assessment & control measures.
Section 4 Health and safety management.
Section 5 Accidents in the workplace.
Section 6 Manual handling and ergonomics.
Section 7 Workplace hazards.
Section 8 Health promotion
Duration / Times:
The course consists of 5 days, normally 3 days on week one and 2 days on week two – but this can be adapted to suit the client, it can be 1 day per week for 5 weeks or any combination as appropriate.
