Introduction
Candidates must have a recognised current Occupational First Aid Certificate that is within 1 month of expiry. The refresher course lasts 1 day. The refresher course covers a review of all modules with particular emphasis on CPR. Certification lasts for a further 3 years.
Course Content
The Occupational First Aid course is a statutory course set down by the HSA and based on the requirements of the 1993 Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations.
The course is designed to fulfil the criteria of the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act and subsequent legislation in relation to having trained First Aiders in the workplace.
Instructors certified by the National Ambulance Training School are recognised as eligible by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), to deliver the course.
The content is set by the HSA and the theory modules are as follows:
Lesson 1: Assessment, Accident Scene Management
Lesson 2: Circulation, Wounds and Bleeding
Lesson 3: Respiration, Asphyxia
Lesson 4: C.P.R.
Lesson 5: Unconsciousness
Lesson 6: Fractures, Sprains, Strains and Dislocations
Lesson 7: Burns and Scalds, Chemical / Poisons, Electric Shock
Lesson 8: Medical Emergencies, Crush and Spinal Injuries
Each theory module has associated practical work as well.
There is an assessment at the end of the course. |
