Introduction
Occupational First Aid deals with the types of injuries that would be likely to occur at your workplace. Courses are designed to train employees in the correct response to any workplace emergency.
Our Occupational First Aid Certificates comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (General Applications Regulations S.I. No. 44 1993) and certification is valid for 3 years
Course Content
The Occupational First Aid course is a statutory course set down by the HSA and based on the requirements of the 1993 Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations.
The course is designed to fulfil the criteria of the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act and subsequent legislation in relation to having trained First Aiders in the workplace.
Instructors certified by the National Ambulance Training School are recognised as eligible by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), to deliver the course.
The content is set by the HSA and the theory modules are as follows:
Lesson 1: Assessment, Accident Scene Management
Lesson 2: Circulation, Wounds and Bleeding
Lesson 3: Respiration, Asphyxia
Lesson 4: C.P.R.
Lesson 5: Unconsciousness
Lesson 6: Fractures, Sprains, Strains and Dislocations
Lesson 7: Burns and Scalds, Chemical / Poisons, Electric Shock
Lesson 8: Medical Emergencies, Crush and Spinal Injuries.
Each theory module has associated practical work as well.
The delivery of the course must be over not less than 3 days. We would normally run the course over 3 consecutive full days, but the option to run the course on one day per week for 3 weeks is also available.
There is an assessment at the end of the course which must be given by an external examiner from the Ambulance Training School Register.
The course is designed to fulfil the criteria for First Aiders at work and as such the content is pitched at lay personnel with no previous medical knowledge.
It is important to realise that the purpose of the Occupational first Aid course is, however, to fulfil the Health & Safety regulations which our course does, and that if customers have different requirement that they discuss all options fully with us. |
